Our time in Switzerland was short. The majority of our time there was spent with the Murphy family, who kindly had offered to host us for a few days. We spent a day working for them and a day in Laussane, as well as one rest day before moving on to Milan. We had to get up ridiculously early to catch the train out. I’m not exactly a morning person, as you can see…
So, Will got me a pretzel. He’s a pretty great traveling buddy, just saying. Anybody who buys me a pretzel early in the morning gets bonus points.
Our day in Laussane was the highlight of our Switzerland stay. Laussane is a relatively large town on Lake Geneva, and it was quite beautiful. We took the train there from Coppet and spent the day wandering around with Naomi Murphy. With no real agenda, the first order of business was to climb the hill the town is set on. We must’ve climbed hundreds of stairs. At last, we came to the highest point: an old cathedral set high above the town. The beauty of the area was overwhelming. Red tiled roofs in every direction, the lake glistening beneath us, the Alps cutting into the sky in the distance.
Unfortunately, that view was our entire experience in Switzerland. We walked around Laussane. Went into a few shops. Ate lunch at the foot of the town hall while some musicians did their thing. It was fantastic, and extraordinarily beautiful, but I’d love to head back some day and really get a feel for the culture of Switzerland. I don’t feel like we really experienced the country as much as we could have if we’d spent more time immersed in the culture of the area.
Here’s some photos of our time there!
